About the US State Privacy Laws navigator

What it is

The navigator covers the 23 comprehensive US state consumer privacy laws, and lists Florida's narrower law apart. Each law has an overview page (citation, dates, amendments, enforcer, cure period) and six topic pages: applicability, consumer rights, sensitive data, controller duties, processors, enforcement. Each topic also has a page comparing all the laws side by side. Every key point and every comparison entry names the statute section it comes from. It is published by DPO School as a study and reference aid. It is reference material, not legal advice.

Sources

The content was prepared from the official sources: the statutes and session laws on each state legislature's own site, and regulations and guidance on the sites of the agencies that issue them. Each page lists the sources it relies on and links to the official statute. State statute text is public domain. No publisher annotations or commercial code compilations are used.

How it is kept current

Each page states the date its sources were last read ("Law as of"; today October 28, 2026). When a law is amended or a new law is enacted, the sources are read again, the data is updated, and that date changes. Laws enacted but not yet in force show the date they take effect.
